Viola Brands cannabis will now be available in Canada.

The company founded by former National Basketball Association player Al Harrington has partnered with Toronto-based Avicanna Inc. to distribute its products in the country.

Users will be able to access Viola offerings through Medical Cannabis by Shoppers, an online platform by Shoppers Drug Mart Inc.

Shoppers Drug Mart is Canada’s largest chain of drugstores.

Harrington played 16 seasons in the NBA after he was drafted by the Indiana Pacers in 1998.

The former pro basketball player founded Viola in 2011, naming the cannabis venture after his grandmother.

“We’re excited to launch in Canada with our partner Avicanna, who shares our vision to increase representation and promote equity within the cannabis industry,” Harrington said in a media release Tuesday (November 9).

Avicanna will manage the commercialization of Viola-branded products in Canada.

Aras Azadian, CEO of Avicanna, in the same release described the launch of Viola in the country as a “huge win for Canadians as the products will be available nationwide immediately”.

Viola operates in California, Colorado, Michigan, Oregon, and Oklahoma.

Harrington’s cannabis company offers a wide variety of products, from flower to butane extracts.
