There are plenty of things to do for chemically enhanced fun in Miami. But the mayor of Miami wants to make it a misdemeanor to smoke cannabis in public. The punishment being proposed: up to 60 days in jail or a fine of up to $500.
City officials are reportedly worried about pot smokers tarnishing the city’s image, even though cannabis is decriminalized in Miami-Dade County.
“The public usage of illegal substances negatively impacts the city’s residents and visitors,” says a memo from city solicitor Raul Aguila.
