Mexico’s drug cartels are turning to smuggling avocados

They’re the only green product that millennials love more than weed

Now that California has legalized weed, times are getting tougher for the Mexican cartels.

Smuggling weed has become less profitable. The situation has gotten to the point where Mexicans are going into California to smoke legal American weed. It’s a complete reversal of the long-standing northward flow of cannabis.

So the cartels are starting to get in on the trade of another profitable green product millennials love: avocados.

According to the Guardian, up to four truckloads of avocados are stolen every day in Mexico as the drug cartels go in search of a new revenue stream.

It’s a profitable target. Avocados are big business in the country, valued at more than $2 billion annually.
