In the Marvel comic book universe cannabis is now legal
The publisher has used their comics as a way to comment on current affairs in the past

In the latest issue of Daredevil, the Marvel universe has taken a big step.
Pot is legal now thanks to the villainous Kingpin – now the mayor of New York City – who does what the real-life mayor Bill de Blasio hasn’t been able to – and that’s to get legal rec weed over the finish line. Only Kingpin uses corrupt politicians to help him in the comic book story.
“I’ve diversified!” says Kingpin, in the latest issue. “I’m now expanding into legal recreational drugs, firearm companies, and casinos.”
(At least one of those things is a good thing.)
Readers will have to read the whole issue (Daredevil #12) to see how this experiment in legal pot unfolds.
It’s a move that is not that unusual for Marvel. The publisher has used their comics as a way to comment on current affairs in the past, including on diversity issues. But whether the Kingpin storyline makes it to the big screen version remains to be seen.
