Cannabis vape giant Pax lays off a quarter of its workforce

A Pax spokesperson blamed the layoffs on “evolving business priorities” and declining sales

Cannabis vapes giant Pax Labs sacked 65 people this week. That’s 25 per cent of the company’s workforce.

Pax Labs didn’t directly link the layoffs to the panic around vape lung. But they did say it was because of “evolving business priorities” and that they missed their sales mark. How much of that was related to vape lung is anyone’s guess, but it’s not an unbreakable code.

The move is sure to be interpreted as a consequence of the mounting controversy.

Meanwhile, the company, which is a spin-off of American electronic cigarette company Juul Labs, is distancing itself from Juul devices. Pax says the two companies “operate completely independently.”
