A Vancouver company has announced plans to distribute the cannabis brand named after legendary country singer and weed advocate Willie Nelson.

New Leaf Ventures Inc. stated in a news release that its U.S. subsidiary has entered into a letter of intent with GHC, Inc., a Denver, Colorado firm that created the Willie’s Reserve brand.

New Leaf Ventures seeks to “obtain exclusive licensing rights” in the state of Washington.

Moreover, the plan “encompasses exclusive rights to source, manufacture, distribute, and market the entire lineup of Willie’s Reserve and Harvest products” in the state.

Nelson launched Willie’s Reserve in 2015.

Online, GHC relates that the American company was “born out of a meeting at Willie Nelson’s kitchen table in 2014”.

Nelson is considered to be an icon among cannabis users.

The singer’s pot reputation is so remarkable that a cannabis strain called Willie Nelson has been named after him.

In his 1988 autobiography Willie: An Autobiography, the famous cannabis devotee related that he fired up a joint on the roof of the White House when he was invited over by then President Jimmy Carter.

“I let the weed cover me with a pleasing cloud,” Nelson wrote.

“I guess the roof of the White House is the safest place to smoke dope.”

New Leaf Ventures describes itself as a “management and investment organization”.

The company wholly owns New Leaf USA, Inc., which entered into a letter of intent with GCH.

“Having a quality nationally recognized brand join our existing product mix will undoubtedly interest other brand distributors looking for partnership opportunities,” Robert Colwell, CEO of New Leaf USA and director of New Leaf Ventures, said in the media release Tuesday (June 29).

The Vancouver company trades in the Canadian Securities Exchange under ticker symbol NLV.

As of this CannCentral posting, NLV was going at $0.45 a share.
