A rig is a pipe or bong complete with a bail used to smoke dabs and consume other concentrates. Rigs come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and prices with the most expensive going for several thousands of dollars. A rig allows for the vaporization of concentrate and the enjoyment of full flavour and full bodied effects.
Rigs are most commonly referred to as dab rigs, but they are also known as oil rigs, vapour rigs, and concentrate pipes. The way a rig works is by filtering vapour from concentrates through the water at the base of it. A dab rig needs various components including a nail that is typically made of quartz, titanium, glass, or ceramic a banger holding the concentrate, a dabber tool, and a torch lighter used to heat it up.
Many newcomers that are just entering into the dabbing field will find a rig to be a comprehensive and sometimes complicated piece of hardware to utilize. But after using and getting to know the process of a dab rig, consumers can enjoy the experience of a greater high and much more concentrated flavours of cannabis. Before rigs were around, people had different methods of consuming concentrates that date back to the 1960s.
People used to vaporize concentrate with a method that was known as “knife hits.” Consumers would heat up two knives on a stove until they were red hot, then put a piece of hash on them and inhale the vapour produced through a soda bottle or a tube. A brother and sister named Hashmasta Kut and Lucy Carson made the first commercial rig in 2006. It used a titanium swing attached to a skillet that would then lower under a glass arm. On the pan that was heated up, the dab would vaporize and then the consumer would inhale through the glass arm piece.
